In 2010, the Rural Utilities Service, under the U.S. Department of Agriculture, announced that Vermont Telephone Co. Inc. (VTel) would receive federal stimulus funding to deploy our Wireless Open World (WOW) project. The WOW project will enable construction of:

1. A statewide 4G/LTE wireless broadband network.

2. A Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network in VTel’s 14 telephone exchanges;

WOW’s 4G/LTE network will reach Vermont’s presently under-served and un-served areas. VTel’s wireless team is working diligently and we are pleased to report that we are on track to meet the federal timeline to launch the WOW network by the end of 2013. In the first year, we finalized the details of our federal contract with the Rural Utilities Service. In the second year, we selected Ericsson as our technology partner and completed the design of the network. Additionally, VTel installed the core of the wireless network in Springfield, VT, and selected the majority of nearly 200 sites that comprise the wireless network. We will soon begin testing the network and start bringing sites online. We are excited about the upcoming launch and look forward to serving your area.
